Meet Our Team

Dr. John Schroeder joined the practice in 2021. He graduated from Iowa State College of Veterinary Medicine in 2017. After graduation, he spent three years practicing in Phoenix, Arizona, before moving back to Iowa. Dr. Schroeder has a dog (Piper) and a cat (Carlos). Dr. Schroeder and his wife enjoy being outdoors, traveling, and spending time with their growing family.

Dr. Kathryn Kriss grew up in the Chicago suburbs. She moved to Iowa to attend Drake University, where her heart will always be a Drake Bulldog. She received her DVM from Iowa State University in 2022 and is excited to join the team at Broderick Animal Clinic. Her professional interests include feline medicine and dentistry. She enjoys biking, baking, and cheering on the Iowa Cubs in her free time.

Amber went to ISU and DMACC for studies in Animal Science. She always wanted to work with animals for a career. She started working in the veterinary field in 2008 at a local emergency center. Amber has been a technician for 14 years and at Broderick’s for eight years. She’s been in the lead role for 6 of those eight years. She is a cat lover/whisperer and owner of 3 cats and a rabbit. Amber lives in Winterset with her husband, Kent, and her daughter Emery. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family in their backyard pool, boating on the lake, having cocktails on the deck, and watching Netflix on the couch.

Megan grew up in the northwest suburbs of Chicago with her parents and sister. She is an avid Bears and Cubs fan. Megan grew up around dogs, cats, and small animals and has always loved animals. Megan began working at a doggy daycare/vet clinic in 2015. During this time, she earned her dog training certification and ran obedience classes at the facility. Here she got her start in veterinary medicine. She joined the Broderick team in 2017 and worked her way up to technician. Megan’s whole life is animals. She and her husband, Jack, have three dogs and two cats. Along with being a dog trainer, she is also a pet sitter and runs her own training/pet sitting business, so much of her time is spent with animals. Outside work, Megan enjoys hanging out with family and friends, playing piano, and going to the lake for relaxation, fishing, and tubing.

Ashley enjoys playing video games and baking goodies. She is a foodie and enjoys trying new foods around Des Moines. Her favorite dog breeds are Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and Huskies. She can’t choose a favorite feline breed; they’re all great!

Devin started working at Broderick’s in September of 2022. He plans to learn as much as possible to pursue his long-term goal of returning to school to become a Veterinary Technician or even a veterinarian! He has a passion for larger-breed dogs. Being able to play and wrestle with them is something he loves to do, his favorite being the German Pointers. He enjoys playing video games with his online friends worldwide in his spare time.

Olivia joined our team in October of 2023. She grew up in the Dubuque area but moved to Des Moines to further pursue a career in Veterinary Medicine. Olivia has an Australian Cattle dog named Murphy, who attended college at the University of Northern Iowa with her, as well as a cat named Rosa. Olivia has always had a love for animals and has dreamed of pursing a career involving them since she was a child. In her free time, She enjoys hanging out with her friends, watching movies, traveling, and exploring new places and hobbies!

Reese has been a part of our team since January of 2022, working as one of our Junior Kennel Attendants. In May of 2024, she graduated from high school here in Waukee. Reese’s love of animals is reflected in her kindness and compassion when she is working with them. In following her career path, she took the next step, being moved to the role of Doctor Assistant! Currently, Reese is enrolled in classes at DMACC for Vet Tech school! In her free time Reese enjoys reading and spending time with her family and friends. She has a pitbull named Tank and a cat named Jack. She loves working with the bigger more difficult dogs that come into the clinic as she has one herself!

My name is Madisen, and I was born and raised in Iowa. I have been employed at Broderick Animal Clinic since August 2019. I attended community college in Ankeny for Small Business Management, Hotel/Restaurant Management, and Culinary Arts. I have three children, three cats, and one dog. My hobbies include fishing, hiking, camping, and spending time with my family and friends.

Nicole was born in Montana and raised in Iowa. Currently resides in Winterset, IA. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Science with Zoology emphasis from Northwest Missouri State University. Nicole started in March of 2022 at Broderick’s. She has always loved animals, especially German Shepherds, horses, turtles, and elephants, and she loves working with all of the pets at the clinic. She has worked with animals big and small, from guinea pigs, cats, and dogs to cows, camels, and giraffes! Her free time is spent with family and friends outside, playing game nights, or watching movies. She and her husband have two sons (Mason and Jayden), as well as two dogs Lucea (German Shepherd) and Duke (German Shorthair Pointer).

My name is Mariah, and I was born and raised in Iowa. I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Ecology at Iowa State University. I started at Broderick Animal Clinic in September 2023. I have loved animals all my life. I live with my fiancé, stepdaughter, and my shihchon Buttons. I enjoy spending my free time with my family, camping, playing games, and watching movies. I have worked with animals big and small, from dogs and lemurs to Giraffes, Lions, and Tigers!
